The F.D.R. of Ethiopia is located in the north-eastern part of Africa commonly known as the Horn of Africa. Ethiopia is among five largest coffee producers in the world and Africa's top producer. Half of the coffee is consumed by Ethiopians, and the country leads the continent in domestic consumption. Coffee has economic, environmental as well as social significance to the country. Ethiopia has suitable environmental conditions for coffee production. Coffee Arabica grows naturally in tropical forest areas of the country. Coffee grown at various altitudes ranging from 1200-2750 meters above sea level, where there is sufficient rainfall with an amount between 1500-2500 mm and where there are optimum temperatures between 15-25ºC. Yirgachaffee, Harar, Sidama, Limmu, Jimma, Tepi, Bebeka, Lekempti are the types of coffee produced in Ethiopia. Among these Yirgacheffee, Harrar and Sidamo are the world's finest coffees and famous trademarks of Ethiopia's finest coffees branded globally.
