About us

  • Anthracite Coffee began in 2009 in a renovated factory in Hapjeong, Seoul. The name comes from anthracite, a type of coal, reflecting the brand’s roots in reinterpreting industrial heritage. Anthracite combines specialty coffee with inspirations from art, design, and literature to unique cultural experiences.

    With locations in Hapjeong, Yeonhui, Seogyo each space is designed to highlight architectural character and local context. All beans are directly sourced and roasted in-house, and offered through both cafes and online. Blends such as “Natsume Soseki,” “Pablo Neruda,” and “William Blake” reflect the brand’s storytelling rooted in literature and the arts.

    Anthracite is not just a cafe, but a cultural brand that blends space, story, and coffee into one experience.

    Butter Fat Trio

    Butter Fat Trio is inspired by the harmony of music. Just as Thomas Mann’s works weave sentences like a composition, each coffee origin plays its part with purpose and balance. Latin America brings clarity and balance, Asia offers depth, and Africa contributes vibrant aromas. Together, they a blend that resonates like a unified performance.

    The simplest sentences build the strongest stories. Natsume Soseki’s writing creates vivid imagery while using only clear, decisive expressions. His words, filtered and refined, become precise compositions. A story told with the right technique and description remains as a distinct image. Within this clarity lies a quiet beauty, much like the special moments we seek in everyday life.

    L’air et les songes

    Air & Dream is Anthracite’s first blend, inspired by Gaston Bachelard’s vision of imagination rooted in the primal elements?water, fire, air, and earth. Crafted with top-grade lots from Ethiopia, Kenya, and Guatemala, it is roasted to a medium-light point for vibrant sweetness and bright acidity. Anchored by a Kenyan base for depth, the cup offers floral and fruity notes, nougat-like sweetness, and a lingering finish of juice and tea.

    Pablo Neruda

    Pablo Neruda Blend transforms the everyday cup into a metaphor, echoing the poet’s view of life through rhythm and symbol. Built on the bold character of natural Ethiopia and the nutty sweetness of Guatemala, it offers a balanced profile. With notes of berries, hazelnut, and brown sugar, this blend delivers a vibrant yet harmonious flavor, leaving a lingering finish reminiscent of juice and wine.

    William Blake

    William Blake Blend draws inspiration from the poet’s vision of inner essence and spiritual awakening. Roasting is seen as a journey through fire, leading to a coffee that embodies its true essence. This dark roast highlights depth and richness while balancing diverse flavors. With bold sweetness, it offers unique notes of preserved dates and blackcurrant, finishing with a cacao nib-like aftertaste.
