About us

  • The Institute of Costa Rican Coffee (ICAFE) is a public - non governmental organization that promotes the national coffee activity. It was stablished in 1933 by the law No. 2762 of the Republic of Costa Rica, which establishes the relationship among Producers, Millers and Coffee Exporters.

    The Institute contributes to the coffee activity development and the country agricultural diversification in addition, it supports coffee growing, milling, export and domestic commercialization, and promotes the Costa Rican Coffee for domestic and international consumption.

    ICAFE researches and develops agricultural and industrial technology and approves the minimum price that each coffee miller must pay to the producers.

    Building on over 50 years of scientific studies on coffee in Costa Rica, ICAFE carries out research in coffee, particularly through breeding experiments in the field. It also operates a chemical laboratory that provides support for quality control.
